My Farewell

It has been an honor to steer the District Charter Alliance during a time of innovation and partnership throughout Texas - an organization that puts students' interests above all else. My time at DCA has been rewarding and challenging, but most importantly, I have learned valuable lessons and have met great education leaders across Texas.

Since the formation of DCA, we have supported statewide organizations, local school districts, experienced charter school leaders, new non-profit professionals, teachers, and more, all to change the narrative of public education to one of partnership and collaboration. This did not come without its challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, school finance reforms,  criticism against SB 1882 partnerships, gun violence, school leader and teacher burnout, etc. Despite it all, our members have overcome many challenges to focus their efforts on students, accountability results, interventions in low-performing campuses, and creating high-quality partnerships for their communities.

DCA has taught me to include everyone in our conversations, educate the misinformed, show results, and keep moving forward - in lockstep. Our state has many capable education leaders doing incredible work - from Midland to San Antonio, from Waco to Fort Worth - to our rural partners in South Texas - we have always worked together. Whether be a district or a charter, the left or the right - DCA has been a glue that I have been proud to serve.

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve and support your efforts in education. My time at DCA is ending, and I will start a new chapter as the Executive Director of Teach for America, Dallas-Fort Worth. I will be with DCA in a small capacity until final arrangements have been made, and I am happy to connect during this transition. DCA members will receive more information regarding the transition next week.

I would love to stay in touch - if you are in town, let's catch up!
